The Mission of Art...
Becoming an "artist" was a life-transforming shift...a joyful, bone-shaking emergence, arising, as it so often does, from a series of life challenges, the details of which are less important than marking the arrival of noticing this "pressure/release" movement as the archetype of birth, one i would soon see at work in damn near everything, from global politics to inner thought processes, from orgasms to throwing parties...everything.
As this noticing deepened, i moved from looking around to see who this "artist" was when folks would use the term... then getting used to the term... THEN beginning to feel confined by the term... separated by it, as the lens of the personal began to be stripped away by connecting to the ubiquitous nature of this pulsing, ever-birthing tide... like removing bug juice from an auto mobile for a smoother, more aerodynamic ride...
This was the turning where i began to identify with the term "art missionary" more than "artist"... less about me, more about the mojo itself.... how to massage this artful well of process in ways that serve to more fully unlock the creative potentials of all who stir in its concentric? ...how to have this growing "noticing" resonate in places where "the art of" can be the "kEy" to renewal, beauty, and community?...
